All 20 clubs will take the field over Saturday and Remembrance Sunday for their Barclays Premier League fixtures while wearing shirts featuring poppies – the logo of the Royal British Legion.

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Tribute will be paid at every match to those members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives while serving their country, with a minute’s silence before kick-offs. The Royal British Legion is the UK’s leading Service charity, spending £1.7million every week on direct, practical care for serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans of all ages and their families.

Over 1,000 members of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force will also have free access to Premier League grounds this weekend, courtesy of “Tickets For Troops”. The celebratory weekend will further highlight the work of all 20 Barclays Premier League clubs in this area, as over 20,000 match tickets will be given away this season as a part of the initiative.

“We are hugely grateful to the Premier League and the Premier League clubs for supporting the troops”
Lord Marland chelsea The Premier League also supports the work of Tickets For Troops by donating a perimeter board and match programme space to charity, as well as making stadium announcements.

OUR INITIATIVE #HNLforVukovar

We can do almost the exact same thing here in Croatia. There is a special day when we remember Vukovar and the horrible Patriotic war – November 18th. Every football club or any other sport organisation will wear badges on their shirts with a symbol of initiative #HNLforVukovar (Croatian Football League in Croatian is Hrvatska Nogometna Liga). We created our proposal for this activity (see below).

We invite all the clubs from HNL (Croatian football league) to support this initiative by putting this decal on their shirts, coaches’ jackets and other sports clothing and apparel and by sharing information about this initiative through their social media and other means of communication.

Clubs could also participate in auctions that would take place after the matches and all the money would go to charity. After all, clubs could invite veterans and Vukovar citizens to the stands, like clubs in the Premier League do.

vukyEverybody can support this initiative by putting a badge on their social media profile pictures through Twibbon by CLICKING HERE.
